Manual separators for magnetic cell isolation

  • Fast and easy isolation of any cell type labeled with MACS MicroBeads
  • Strong permanent magnets for cell isolation with or without columns
  • Excellent separation results with high cell yields and purities

MACS® Separators at a glance

MACS Separators are strong permanent magnet that enable the isolation of any cell type. Together with MACS MicroBeads and MACS Columns, they deliver target cells with high purities and recoveries.

When a column is placed in a MACS Separator, the column spheres amplify the magnetic field of the Separator by 10,000-fold, thus inducing a strong magnetic force within the column. Thereby, even cells that are only slightly labeled with MACS MicroBeads are retained in the column.

Depending on your experimental set-up and specific application, we also offer separators for column-independent isolation. Whereas column-dependent isolation relies on magnetic labeling of cells with MicroBeads, isolation without columns enables untouched cell isolation.

Choose the separator you need

Check the list of manual separators below and choose the one that fits the column type, cell number, sample number, and sample size you are working with.

For detailed information on the separator and column type recommended for a specific reagent, please refer to the data sheet provided with the particular MACS Cell Separation Reagent.

Manual separators for column-based cell isolation

MiniMACS™ and OctoMACS™ Separators

MiniMACS™ (right) and OctoMACS™ (left) Separators

View details

The MiniMACS™ Separator is ideally suited for small-scale cell separations since it fits only one column. In contrast, the OctoMACS™ Separator allows the simultaneous separation of up to eight samples. Both separators are compatible with MS Columns, Large Cell Columns, and M Columns.

Both separators are attached to a MACS MultiStand, which holds the Separator in the required position during cell isolation.

MidiMACS™ and QuadroMACS™ Separators

The MidiMACS™ and the QuadroMACS™ Separator are the perfect choice when working with LS Columns, LD Columns, or Whole Blood Columns. While the MidiMACS Separator provides space for one column, the QuadroMACS Separator enables the simultaneous separation of up to four samples.

Both separators are attached to a MACS MultiStand, which holds the Separator in the required position during cell isolation.

Developed for large-scale cell separations, the SuperMACS™ II Separator can be used in combination with any MACS Column for manual cell separation.

Manual separators for column-free cell isolation

MACSxpress® Separator

View details

MACSxpress® Technology enables untouched cell isolation from up to 30 mL of whole blood, buffy coats, and LRSCs (buffy cones) in one single step without the need for density gradient centrifugation.

The MACSxpress Separator contains a powerful magnet that induces a strong magnetic field within sample tubes. Cells that are magnetically labeled with MACSxpress beads will adhere to the tube wall while the supernatant contains the non-labeled target fraction.

It can be used with 5, 15, or 50 mL tubes.

MACSiMAG™ Separator
View details

The MACSiMAG™ Separator is designed for the removal of cells from cell suspensions that have previously been labeled with MACSiBead™ Particles. It contains a powerful magnet that induces a strong magnetic field within sample tubes. Labeled target cells will adhere to the tube wall while the supernatant contains the non-labeled target fraction.

The MACSiMAG Separator holds up to three 50 mL tubes or four 15 mL tubes.
