Cells were incubated with an excess of purified unconjugated CD159c (NKG2C) (REA205) antibody followed by staining with fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies of other known clones against the same marker. Based on the fluorescence signal obtained, the clones were identified as recognizing completely overlapping (++), partially overlapping (+), or completely different epitopes (-) of the marker.

Overview

Clone REA205 recognizes the CD159c antigen, a calcium-dependent (C-type) lectin which is also known as NKG2C type II integral membrane protein or KLRC2. CD159c heterodimerizes with CD94 to form a complex that recognizes HLA-E as ligand. Clone REA205 detects the human CD159c/CD94 heterodimer and does not cross-react with the human CD159a/CD94 heterodimer or with the human CD94 homodimer. CD159c is expressed primarily on natural killer (NK) cells and receptor ligation results in NK cell activation. The proportion of CD3

T cells expressing the CD159c/CD94 complex is elevated under pathologic conditions, such as human CMV infection, active celiac disease, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Additional information: Clone REA205 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
