Cells were incubated with an excess of purified unconjugated KIR2D (REA1042) antibody followed by staining with fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies of other known clones against the same marker. Based on the fluorescence signal obtained, the clones were identified as recognizing completely overlapping (++), partially overlapping (+), or completely different epitopes (-) of the marker.

Overview

Clone REA1042 recognizes the killer immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) 2D subtype on human and non-human primate cells. It recognizes all KIRs bearing two extracellular Ig-like domains, and also both activating and inhibitory KIR isoforms (KIR2DS and KIR2DL, respectively). KIRs are expressed on CD56

T cells. KIRs contribute to the regulation of NK cell–mediated cytotoxicity. They are monomeric receptors possessing high allelic polymorphism with either two or three Ig-like extracellular domains (KIR2D or KIR3D, respectively). According to the length of their cytoplasmic tail, KIRs can be subdivided in long-tailed inhibitory KIRs (KIR2DL or KIR3DL) and short-tailed activating KIRs (KIR2DS or KIR3DS).
Additional information: Clone REA1042 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
