Background information

JCV is a widespread human polyomavirus with high homology to BK polyomavirus (BKV). Primary JCV infection results in asymptomatic latent persistence of the virus in the gastrointestinal tract and the kidney. Immunodeficiency or immunosuppression allows virus reactivation, which can cause, e.g., a fatal progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. VP1 is the major capsid protein expressed late in the lytic cycle. It is described to induce T cell immunity.

T cells in various applications, including:
  • Detection and analysis of JCV VP1–specific effector/memory T cells in PBMCs by MACS® Cytokine Secretion Assays, intracellular cytokine staining, or other technologies.
  • Isolation of viable JCV VP1–specific CD4+ T cells with the CD154 MicroBead Kit, or of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells using the CD137 MicroBead Kit or MACS Cytokine Secretion Assay – Cell Enrichment and Detection Kits. Subsequently, cells can be expanded for generation of T cell lines.
  • Generation of JCV VP1–specific effector/memory T cells from naive T cell populations.
  • Pulsing of antigen-presenting cells.
