Whole organ quantitative biology using light sheet microscopy

Whole organ quantitative biology using light sheet microscopy

About the webinar

Tissue clearing and imaging by light sheet microscopy has become a powerful tool to study the overall composition of functional units in entire organs as well as the impact of diseases on these structures. Using our set of fast, completely nontoxic and fluorescence-maintaining techniques for organ clearing we have studied the structural composition of various organs in 3D.

In this webinar, you will learn how to quantify the total number and size of all glomeruli in murine kidneys under normal and pathological conditions. In a model of ischemia-reperfusion injury the massive influx of immune cells and the impact of the ischemic insult on the vascular structure in affected heart muscles will be demonstrated.

Finally, you will gain insights into how tissue clearing and light sheet imaging has been fundamental for the discovery of a new type of blood vessels in murine and human long bones. These studies provide a completely new view on the effects of autoimmunity and inflammation on entire organs and will change the way we can study these disease settings.
