Clone REA449 recognizes the human MEK2 antigen regardless of phosphorylation status. MEK2 is a serine/threonine kinase also known as MAP kinase kinase (MAPKK 2) or MAPK/ERK kinase 2. The dual specificity kinases MEK1 and MEK2 are activated by RAF and mediate phosphorylation of ERK1 and ERK2. MEK1 and MEK2 are very similar but differ structurally in a proline-rich domain in the C-terminal half of the catalytic core. Binding of extracellular ligands such as growth factors, cytokines, and hormones to their cell-surface receptors activates RAS and this initiates RAF1 activation. Depending on the cellular context, this pathway mediates diverse biological functions such as cell growth, adhesion, survival, and differentiation, predominantly through the regulation of transcription, metabolism, and cytoskeletal rearrangements.
Additional information: Clone REA449 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
