How many PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) can I expect from 1 mL of blood?

The number of cells depends on the specific donor. Approximate values for healthy donors are as follows:

  • Peripheral blood: about 2x106 PBMC/mL
  • Peripheral blood following density centrifugation: about 1x106 PBMC/mL
