Clone REA388 recognizes an alloantigen of the mouse CD244 antigen, a Single-pass type I membrane protein also known as 2B4. CD244 is a receptor belonging to the CD2 subfamily of the Ig superfamily and is involved in non-MHC dependent cytotoxicity. Expression of CD244 is found on all NK cells, γδ T cells, basophils, and monocytes as well as a subset of memory-phenotype CD8
+
αβ T cells. The ligand of CD244 is CD48, which is expressed on all hematopoietic cells. CD244 is primarily involved in inhibiting NK cell functions. In inbred mice, at least two splice variants exist that differ in the length of the cytoplasmic domain. The long form functions in an inhibitory manner, while the short form functions in an activating manner. Clone REA388 reacts with CD244.2, the CD244 allloantigen which is expressed on C57BL/6 and C58/J mice, but not in Balb/c mice.
Additional information: Clone REA388 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
