Owl – Mechanical Engineering Intern – Santa Barbara, CA

Owl biomedical Inc. is seeking an Engineering Intern to assist their close-knit Engineering Team with large design projects by means of the product development process and troubleshooting. Owl is an emerging company, working in order to develop and commercialize microchip-based cell sorting systems using fully-closed disposable cartridges in an easy-to-use format.

This will be a full-time, paid, hands-on, summer internship for an undergrad or graduate student in the Engineering field. The ideal intern will be a student with an engineering background who will assist with the development, research, and testing of our Tyto cell sorting system, disposable and MEMS devices. Furthermore, this individual will have an interest in learning about product development and the drive to assist the Engineering Team on current projects. Overall, the intern’s skills and abilities will lend to the continued growth and success of Owl biomedical.


  • Fabricate and test prototype microfluidics devices
  • Contribute to the improvement of the devices in quality, efficiency, or performance
  • Generate reports and experiment results 


  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in progress in Engineering discipline
  • A minimum of two years of research experience in fluid dynamics and have a demonstrated understanding of mechanical engineering principles; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in inertial microfluidics is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work in both a laboratory and office environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
