Background information

Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) is secreted by activated T cells, monocytes, macrophages, NK cells, and neutrophils. TNF-α is a mediator of inflammatory immune responses and is toxic for many transformed cells, especially in combination with IFN-γ.

Downstream applications

The TNF-α Secretion Assay was used in combination with the IFN-γ Secretion Assay to investigate cytotoxic effects of HIV-specific T cells.

The TNF-α Secretion Assays can also be used to analyze secretion of TNF-α by other leukocytes, for example, monocytes.
