The monoclonal antibody 7-239 reacts with CD169, also known as siglec-1 or sialoadhesin, which is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein. It is the largest member of the siglec family, which are cell surface lectins that are able to bind to sialic acids and mediate interactions between proteins and carbohydrates. Siglec-1 is mainly expressed on tissue macrophages and dendritic cells and interacts with its counterreceptor on T cells, which has been identified as CD43.
