Streptavidin conjugates

Streptavidin fluorochromes are used in fluorescent staining of biotinylated molecules, such as biotinylated antibodies bound to cell antigens. Streptavidin possesses a very high affinity towards biotin. Compared to anti-biotin fluorochromes the affinity of streptavidin is higher and it recognizes all forms of biotin. Care should be taken if streptavidin is used in conjunction with anti-biotin, e.g., in separations with Anti-Biotin MicroBeads, as the streptavidin might replace anti-biotin out of its binding to biotin. In this case the use of anti-biotin fluorochromes is recommended.
