Clone 5G6 recognizes the sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 10 (Siglec-10) antigen, a member of the CD33-related group of siglecs. The cytoplasmic tail of Siglec-10 contains four tyrosines, two of which are embedded in ITIM-signaling motifs and are likely to be involved in intracellular signaling. Amongst peripheral blood leucocytes, Siglec-10 was found to be expressed on eosinophils, monocytes, and B cells. Higher levels of Siglec-10 were found on a minor subset of NK-like cells that express the CD16 low-affinity Fc receptor but lack the CD56 antigen. The molecular properties and expression pattern suggest that Siglec-10 may have evolved to function as an inhibitory receptor of the innate immune system.
