I would like to thank Miltenyi for selecting my work for the Immuno-Oncology Innovation Award.  The NK meeting in Luxembourg was an inspiring meeting and an outstanding opportunity to hear about the latest advances in NK cell biology. Discussing my work with other scientists during the excellent poster sessions, left me with many new ideas for my research.
Ms. Femke Ehlers | Winner of the IOIA 2019 - The 18th Meeting of the Society for Natural Immunity, Luxembourg
I was very honored and excited to receive the Immunology-Oncology Innovation Award. AACR meeting at Atlanta was an excellent opportunity to meet scientists across the globe and share my work with them. I would like to thank Miltenyi for supporting young scientists like me and providing this wonderful opportunity.

Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic
Michal Smida, Ph.D., is a junior research group leader at the CEITEC. His research focuses on personalized medicine for B cell malignancies, in particular developing alternative strategies to combine with immunotherapy regimens and predicting novel therapy targets based on synthetic lethality with patient mutations. His team is mainly using CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing and cell screening with both whole-genome CRISPR knockout as well as drug libraries.
“The Chicago AACR meeting was an outstanding experience for me. I found the opportunity to interact with leaders in the field and to witness firsthand the excitement in cancer immunology to be extremely motivating. I am honored to have my work recognized by Miltenyi and would like to thank you for your dedication to innovation in immuno-oncology.”
Brian Koss | Winner of the IOIA 2018 – American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, United States
Brian Koss is a Ph.D. student in the Tackett lab. He specializes in the use of mass spectrometry for analysis of
histone post-translational modifications. His current work focuses on defining epigenetic mechanisms
driving metabolic exhaustion of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes.
“The San Antonio NK meeting was a really great event to hear about the latest advances in science and a great opportunity to present my work. This award is also a good way to show Miltenyi’s interest in students’ projects. This travel grant allowed me to meet a lot of amazing scientists and to discuss my project and plans with them. University of Montreal, CRCHU Sainte-Justine, Montreal
Aurélien Colamartino is a Ph.D. student in the Haddad lab. His work focuses on a new, highly efficient transduction method to customize NK cells for immunotherapy, using different pseudotyped lentiviral particles.
"I was very honored to receive the Immunology-Oncology Innovation Award, which gave me the opportunity to attend an excellent conference and to present my data. Miltenyi's commitment to support innovation and young scientists is a valuable strategy to move the onco-immunology field forward."
Damya Laoui | Winner of the IOIA 2018 – 15th International Symposium on Dendritic Cells
Flanders Institute for Biotechnology, Vrije Universiteit Brussels
Damya Laoui, Ph.D., is a research scientist in the lab of Jo Van Ginderacter. After her post-doc in the De Palma
lab at the ISREC Institute in the Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne, she came back to Brussels where she leads
her own team focusing on tumor-immunology. She is exploring the role of the immune system in tumor
progression and is developing new personalized immunotherapies based on dendritic cells. For her work in
tumor-immunology she received several prizes.
