Cells were incubated with an excess of purified unconjugated CD2 (LT2) antibody followed by staining with fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies of other known clones against the same marker. Based on the fluorescence signal obtained, the clones were identified as recognizing completely overlapping (++), partially overlapping (+), or completely different epitopes (-) of the marker.

Overview

The CD2 antibody recognizes the human CD2 antigen, a 50 kDa single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein also known as LFA-2 or receptor for sheep erythrocytes. CD2 belongs to the Ig superfamily and is involved in cell signaling and lymphocyte adhesion. The CD2 antibody reacts with 80–90% of peripheral blood lymphocytes and more than 95% of thymocytes. The antibody recognizes all T cells and a subset of natural killer (NK) cells.
