The LIFE 18™ – disk separator features a proprietary plasma separation method: microporous filter membranes are placed at a distance on either side of a disk shaped rotor, which runs contact-free by electromagnetic induction. The plasma is separated via filtration of the whole blood. The LIFE 18 – disk separator is a sterile, single-use product for exclusive use with the LIFE 18 apheresis unit. Plasma separation takes place at the filter membranes by controlling the transmembrane pressure. The blood volume in the LIFE 18 – disk separator is approximately 30 mL.
