Cells were incubated with an excess of purified unconjugated CD36 (REA1184) antibody followed by staining with fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies of other known clones against the same marker. Based on the fluorescence signal obtained, the clones were identified as recognizing completely overlapping (++), partially overlapping (+), or completely different epitopes (-) of the marker.

Overview

Clone REA1184 recognizes the mouse CD36 antigen, which is a 88 kDa member of the class B scavenger receptor family. CD36 is not only expressed by platelets, but also by erythroid precursors, monocytes and macrophages, certain endothelial and specialized epithelial cells. On platelets, CD36 recognition of oxidized LDL contributes to their activation and provides a link between hyperlipidemia, oxidant stress, and the prothrombotic state. Cell-derived microparticles are also major ligands for CD36 and contribute to thrombus formation. Targeting CD36 is a promising avenue for the treatment of atheroinflammatory disorders.
