Mouse IFN-γ

IFN-γ stands for interferon gamma. Mouse IFN-γ is a recombinant protein optimized for use in cell culture, differentiation studies, and functional assays.

Applications

Mouse IFN-γ may be used for a variety of applications, including:
  • Macrophage stimulation to study antimicrobial and anti-tumor effects.
  • I n vitro maturation of DCs, e.g. of MDCs to study the influence of HIV-1 infection.

Background information

Interferon γ (IFN-γ) is a homodimer produced by a variety of immune cells, mainly activated T cells and NK cells. In addition to its antiviral activity

, IFN-γ is a potent activator of macrophages, has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells, and can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of type I interferons. Transgenic mice expressing IFN-γ in the pancreas have been shown to develop autoimmune diabetes, caused by infiltration of lymphocytes. IFN-γ knockout mice develop normally, but are highly susceptible to infection with low numbers of certain intracellular bacterial pathogens and fungi. Mouse IFN-γ shows approximately 40% amino acid sequence homologous with human IFN-γ. It is highly specific without showing cross-reactivity between species.

Quality description

Research-grade
cytokines are suitable for a wide variety of cell culture applications. They are sterile-filtered prior to lyophilization. Generally, endotoxin levels are <0.1 ng/μg (<1 EU/μg), and purities are >95%. The biological activity is tested in appropriate bioassays.
Premium-grade
cytokines offer the convenience of high and well-defined biological activities and allow exact unit dosing for demanding applications. The biological activity is determined after lyophilization and reconstitution, and normalized to WHO/NIBSC standards whenever available. In general, endotoxin levels are <0.01 ng/μg (<0.1 EU/μg), and purities are >97%. Lot-specific certificates of analysis are available on request (macstec@miltenyibiotec.de).
