Specifications for CD230 (PrP) Antibody, anti-human, REAfinity™

Overview

Clone REA203 recognizes CD230, commonly known as the prion protein (PrP). The normal cellular PrP (PrP
c
) is a ubiquitously expressed glycosylphosphatidyl-inositol (GPI) anchored protein. Though the main function of PrP
c
remains unknown, it has been suggested that PrP
c
may play a role in copper regulation, antioxidant activity, intracellular signaling. PrP
sc
is the conformational isoform of PrP
c
with similar primary sequence but different tertiary structure and is associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, and scrapie in sheeps. PrP
sc
is suggested to derive from PrP
c
in a posttranslational process which involves PrP
c
-PrP
sc
molecular interactions.
Additional information: Clone REA203 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
