Human Oncostatin M IS is a recombinant protein optimized for use in cell culture, differentiation studies, and functional assays. IS stands for "improved sequence" and is a variant of Human Oncostatin M with a proprietary amino acid substitution.

Background information

Oncostatin M, also known as OSM, is a member of the interleukin 6 (IL-6) related cytokine subfamily that includes IL-6, interleukin 11 (IL-11), leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). It is a growth and differentiation factor expressed by activated T cells and monocytes that is involved in hematopoiesis, osteogenesis, and neurogenesis. Oncostatin M induces the expression of cytokines like G-CSF and GM-CSF by endothelial cells. It inhibits the growth of a number of tumor cell lines and promotes the growth of human fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells. Human Oncostatin M is active on murine cells.

Quality description

Research-grade
cytokines are suitable for a wide variety of cell culture applications. They are sterile-filtered prior to lyophilization. Generally, endotoxin levels are <0.1 ng/μg (<1 EU/μg), and purities are >95%. The biological activity is tested in appropriate bioassays.
Premium-grade
cytokines offer the convenience of high and well-defined biological activities and allow exact unit dosing for demanding applications. The biological activity is determined after lyophilization and reconstitution, and normalized to WHO/NIBSC standards whenever available. In general, endotoxin levels are <0.01 ng/μg (<0.1 EU/μg), and purities are >97%. Lot-specific certificates of analysis are available on request (macstec@miltenyibiotec.de).
