In their pioneering work, Dr. Shinya Yamanaka and coworkers described the reprogramming of somatic cells to a pluripotent-like state. Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells have since become an invaluable tool for strategies in regenerative medicine, disease modeling, drug discovery, and basic research in cell development. Miltenyi Biotec supports your reprogramming workflow with products from fibroblast isolation and mRNA reprogramming, up to final isolation of reprogrammed iPS cells.

Fibroblast isolation

Establishing high-quality cultures of proliferating fibroblasts is key to the success of your reprogramming experiment. The Whole Skin Dissociation Kit in combination with the gentleMACS™ Dissociator enables gentle yet efficient dissociation of human skin biopsies and facilitates the generation of fibroblast cultures from patient samples.

iPS cell isolation

Isolation of fully reprogrammed iPS cells is a critical step when establishing new iPS cell lines.

  • Live cell staining antibodies against TRA-1-60 or TRA-1-81 allow staining directly in the reprogramming culture and facilitate traditional colony picking.
  • MACS® MicroBead Technology offers an easy way to purify reprogrammed iPS cells based on pluripotency markers such as TRA-1-60 or SSEA-4. This method allows simultaneous processing of multiple cell lines and generation of large amounts of cells in a short period of time.
