Psoriasis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disorder resulting from a combination of predisposing genetic factors and environmental triggers. It is a hereditary disease elicited by chronic activation of cutaneous T cells. Disease manifestation is orchestrated by pro-inflammatory CD4+ T helper cells producing either IFN-γ (Th1 cells) or IL-17 (Th17 cells). These cells interact with dermal resident dendritic cells, macrophages, mast cells, and neutrophils.
