| Stemgent® Rabbit anti-Human Vimentin Antibody |

| Description |
| The Stemgent® Rabbit anti-Human Vimentin Antibody is a rabbit monoclonal antibody. This antibody was screened and selected as the best reagent available for visualization of vimentin-expressing cells. It was screened on a human mesenchymal stem cell line and on human fibroblast cells by immuno-cytochemistry. Western blot assay has confirmed that this antibody detects a ~57 kDa protein by SDS/PAGE. Additionally this antibody has been reported to detect vimentin using immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry applications. Three types of cytosolic fibers make up the cytoskeleton: intermediate filaments (IF), microfilaments (for instance, actin) and microtubules. IF function to maintain cell integrity, give shape and motility, as well as to organize cells into specific tissues. Vimentin is a member of the IF family of proteins and is the most ubiquitous IF protein. It is found in many kinds of mesenchymal and epithelial cells, including leukocytes, blood vessel endothelial cells and developing neuronal and astrocytic precursor cells. It is the first IF to be expressed in all early cell types in development and is then replaced by the tissue-specific IFs in non-mesenchymal types as differentiation proceeds. Vimentin is also present in many different tumor types, particularly in those originated from mesenchymal cells. It is used as an immunohistochemical marker for sarcomas and as a marker for mesenchymal cells. |
