CD117 MicroBead Kit
Overview
The CD117 MicroBead Kit has been developed for the positive selection of human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells from peripheral blood, cord blood or bone marrow. It has also been used for the isolation of various stem cells from adult tissues, e.g. amniotic fluid stem cells1 and cardiomyocyte progenitors2.
Details
Background information
CD117 (also known as c-kit or stem cell factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell signaling, activation and proliferation. CD117 is expressed on 1–3% of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and cord blood cells, and on up to 10% of bone marrow cells.

For flow cytometric analysis of separation results, the use of CD117 (A3C6E2) is recommended.

Downstream applications
The MicroBead-conjugated CD117 antibody (clone AC126) does not interfere with stem cell factor (SCF)-binding. Thus, CD117+ cells isolated with the CD117 MicroBead Kit remain responsive to stimulation with the cytokine stem cell factor (SCF).
