| Stemolecule™ Purmorphamine |
|
| Description |
| Stemolecule™ Purmorphamine is a small molecule that promotes the differentiation of human and murine mesenchymal progenitor cells into osteoblasts1,2. Purmorphamine's effect on differentiation of C3H10T1/2 cells was determined based on alkaline phosphatase expression, resulting in an EC50 value of 1 μM1. The mechanism of action study of Purmorphamine indicates that it is an agonist of Smoothened, a 7-transmembrane receptor of the hedgehog signaling pathway3,4. Hedgehog signaling is involved in several cell differentiation processes and, recently, Fontaine and colleagues (2008) found that hedgehog signaling alters maturation of human mesenchymal stem cells into adipocytes5. Purmorphamine can be used also to replace sonic hedgehog for generation of motor neurons from human embryonic stem cells as described by Li et al. (2008)6. |
