Myelin Removal Beads
Description
Myelin Removal Beads have been developed for the specific removal of myelin debris from dissociated neural tissue. When myelin containing neural tissue is dissociated, large quantities of myelin debris are generated. Magnetic cell isolation and immunostaining of dissociated cells are considerably impaired by myelin particles.1,2
Removal of myelin debris from single cell suspensions leads to a higher purity and recovery of target cells, thereby improving subsequent cell isolation and antibody staining. Myelin removal is therefore recommended prior to cell sorting or antibody staining.

Figure 1
Single-cell suspensions derived from postnatal (P22) mouse brains were analyzed by flow cytometry either before or after treatment with Myelin Removal Beads. Top panel, single-cell suspensions derived from mouse brain consist mainly of myelin fragments and only 4% cells. Middle panel, particles outside the selected region stain with antibodies against glycolipids contained specifically within myelin membranes. Bottom panel, Myelin Removal Beads used with LD Columns and MidiMACS™ Separators efficiently remove myelin debris.
A: Before depletion
B: Anti-O1, -O4, GalC staining
C: After myelin removal
