Anti-Fibroblast MicroBeads
Description
Anti-Fibroblast MicroBeads have been developed for the positive selection or depletion of human fibroblasts using a fibroblast-specific antigen.1 This antigen is also known to be expressed on mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in the bone marrow.2–4
Applications
Applications of the Anti-Fibroblast MicroBeads include the isolation of MSCs from bone marrow aspirate or the removal of fibroblastic cells from bone marrow cultures or other primary tissue cultures. The depletion of fibroblast cells can be an effective step in the establishment of primary tumor cell lines in order to prevent fibroblastic overgrowth within the tissue culture.
Furthermore, human fibroblasts that are used as feeder cells to support the growth of ES or iPS cells can be depleted by using the Anti-Fibroblast MicroBeads.
Columns
For positive selection: MS, LS, XS, or autoMACS® Columns.
For depletion: LD, CS, D, or autoMACS Columns.

Fibroblast antigen–positive cells were isolated from bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) using the Anti-Fibroblast MicroBeads, an MS Column, and a MiniMACS™ Separator. Cells were stained with CD271 (LNGFR)-PE and CD45-FITC. (Courtesy of Dr. Elena Jones, Leeds, UK.)
