Description
Clone Y2/51 recognizes the human CD61 antigen but also cross-reacts with rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) cells. In humans, CD61 associates with CD41 to form the heterodimeric gpIIb/gpIIIa complex that is present on human megakaryocytes and platelets and mediates cell adhesion processes. Together with CD51, CD61 forms the vitronectin receptor, which is present on platelets as well as on a variety of other cell types such as osteoclasts and endothelial vessel cells. The CD61 antibody specifically recognizes the integrin β3-chain of both heterodimeric complexes.
Applications
The CD61 antibody can be used to identify and enumerate rhesus monkey CD61+ cells by flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy.
