| Description |
Whole Blood CD138 MicroBeads were developed for automated positive selection of CD138+ cells directly from whole blood or bone marrow. Anticoagulated samples of 0.25–15 mL are specifically labeled with Whole Blood CD138 MicroBeads to be subsequently separated with the autoMACS™ Pro Separator or the autoMACS Separator. The sample preparation does not require prior performance of density gradient centrifugation or erythrocyte lysis. The CD138 antigen, also known as syndecan-1, is primarily expressed on normal and malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow. In peripheral blood of healthy donors approximately 50% of plasma cells express this antigen. However, CD138 is not expressed by naive B cells, germinal center B cells, memory B cells, T cells, or monocytes. |
| Applications |
Whole Blood MicroBeads and the autoMACS™ Pro Separator or the autoMACS Separator allow fast sample processing under standardized conditions. This combination further allows easy and safe handling of hazardous samples. The purified CD138+ cells are well-suited for flow cytometric, functional, or molecular analysis including lineage-specific chimerism analysis after allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
