CD61
Overview
The CD61 antibody can be used to identify and enumerate human and non-human primate CD61+ cells by flow cytometry or fluorescence microscopy. The CD61 antigen is also known as the integrin β3-subunit.
Details
Background information
The CD61 antibody recognizes the human CD61 antigen which is also known as the integrin β3-subunit. CD61 associates with CD41 to form the heterodimeric gpIIb/gpIIIa
complex that is present on human megakaryocytes and platelets and mediates cell adhesion processes. Together with CD51, CD61 forms the vitronectin receptor, which is present on platelets as well as on a variety of other cell types such as osteoclasts and endothelial vessel cells. The CD61 antibody specifically recognizes the integrin β3-chain of both heterodimeric complexes.
Cross-reactivity
The antibody is tested to cross-react with
  • Rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta)

Y2/51Mouse IgG1

Figure 1
PBMCs were stained with CD61-PE and CD45-FITC and analyzed by flow cytometry. Platelets can be identified as CD61+CD45- cells. Note that a few cells appear to be CD45 and CD61 double positive. These are platelets interacting with leukocytes.
Figure 2
Rhesus monkey PBLs were stained with CD61-PE and CD45-FITC and analyzed by flow cytometry.
