MACS<sup>®</sup> Tools for neuroscience research
Miltenyi Biotec offers innovative research tools for sample preparation, dissociation , isolation and analysis of different neural cell types. In addition, products for cell cultivation and downstream molecular analysis of different neural cell types are also available.

Tissue dissociation
The Neural Tissue Dissociation Kits have been developed for the gentle but efficient generation of single-cell suspensions from neural tissues, and can be used in combination with the gentleMACS™ Dissociator. See the application note below for more information on kit selection for subsequent neural cell separation using MACS® Technology.

Sample preparation
Myelin Removal Beads have been developed for the specific removal of myelin debris from dissociated neural tissue. Removal of myelin debris from single cell suspensions leads to a higher purity and recovery of target cells, thereby improving subsequent cell isolation and antibody staining.

Cell separation
MACS® Technology provides powerful tools for the rapid isolation of virtually any neural cell population with excellent purities and recoveries. Products for the isolation of human, mouse, rat cells are available. From neural stem and progenitor cell populations to differentiated neural cells or neuroinflammatory cells, the isolation of virtually any cell type from any species is possible using direct or indirect labeling strategies.

Cell analysis
For the phenotypic characterization of isolated cells, a wide range of unique and standard monoclonal antibodies for the analysis of cells by flow cytometry or microscopy is available.

Cell culture
MACS Neuro Medium is a serum-free cell culture medium, that has been optimized for optimum growth and long-term survival of neural cells from the central or peripheral nervous system, after cell isolation using magnetic cell sorting. MACS® Supplement B27 PLUS is designed for use in combination with MACS Neuro Medium for optimal growth and long term viability of neural cells of the central and peripheral nervous system.
