Safe and straightforward sample processing and shipment
Ensuring good sample quality is the first step in performing successful microarray experiments. Correct sample processing and safe sample shipment are essential for optimal results. Our long-standing experience means that we can provide recommendations and sample processing protocols for a broad range of samples. A sample submission form has been developed for each of our microarray services and contains important and helpful information about sample processing and shipment. Furthermore, this form enables you to provide our Genomic Service Team with all essential information about the samples and the project in an easy and time-saving manner. Please carefully fill out the appropriate sample submission form before sending your precious samples to us. Sample submission form for:
As soon as the samples arrive at our Genomic Service Department the completed sample submission form provides the basis for a streamlined workflow which saves time and improves the sample handling. The sample reception is confirmed by the Genomic Service Team on the same day and the customer is informed about the sample condition, e.g. if the amount of dry ice was sufficient and the tubes are still intact. At the same time open questions can be addressed to facilitate a fast and smooth processing of the microarray project. As a special service, excess RNA and DNA are stored at Miltenyi Biotec for three months after completion of the Microarray Service. Thus the customer has the possibility to recall these RNA samples for validation experiments.

Extensive control and documentation of sample quality
Successful and reliable microarray analysis depends on the quality of the utilized RNA and DNA samples. Furthermore, an exact quantification is necessary to determine the appropriate amount of starting material. We apply state-of-the-art quality control (QC) tools and methods to meet these demands. RNA samples are quantified using the NanoDrop spectrophotometer and quality-checked via the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer platform (Agilent Technologies). The results of the Bioanalyzer run are visualized in a gel image and an electropherogram using the Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer expert software. In addition to this visual control, the software allows the generation of an RNA Integrity Number (RIN) to check integrity and overall quality of RNA samples. Quantitation of genomic DNA samples is performed using the Qubit fluorometer and the Quant-iT dsDNA BR Assay Kit (Invitrogen), the integrity is assessed via agarose gel electrophoresis. All QC technologies are well-established and have the advantages of high sensitivity and accuracy, and require minimal amounts of sample. The QC results are then documented in an extensive QC Report. This report is sent via email to the customer with a recommendation regarding the applicability of the samples. Our service is much more than simply assessing the quality and quantity of RNA and DNA samples. If necessary we can offer a variety of solutions to improve the RNA and DNA quality, such as DNAse treatment of RNA samples, proteinase treatment of DNA samples and re-purification and recommendations for improvement of sample collection.
