MACS®-4-omics - the significance of disease-related signatures!
A prerequisite for all multi-omics analyses is access to appropriate starting materials. Clear definition and homogeneity of samples is mandatory for successful translation of microarray-based analysis from research into clinic. Most studies published to date have used heterogeneous populations of blood cells, either total leukocytes or Ficoll-purified peripheral blood mononuclear cells. As a consequence, many of the signatures that have been reported may be attributable to differences in the relative abundance of individual leukocyte populations. Reducing the complexity of those samples can significantly improve the data output. If whole blood represents your preferred starting material, the isolation of cells of interest can easily be achieved with Miltenyi Biotec’s Whole Blood MicroBeads (Palmer et al., BMC Genomic, 2006) (Lyons et al., BMC Genomic, 2007) (Lyons et al., Ann Rheum Dis., 2010).
Miltenyi Biotec provides a promising strategy, called MACS®-4-omics, which helps to circumvent problems with heterogeneous samples. MACS®-4-omics describes the synergy of magnetic cell separation - MACS® Technology - and genomic analysis. As market leader in magnetic cell separation, we know how to isolate virtually any cell type from any source. Even solid tissue doesn’t stop us from isolating distinct cell populations, as our gentleMACS™ Dissociator allows for the gentle homogenization of tissue for subsequent magnetic cell separation.
The synergy of MACS Technology and genomic analysis—MACS®-4-omics—is an ideal tool to accelerate and increase the success rate of drug development and clinical studies.
