Defining disease
Microarray-based analysis of inherited and acquired genomic variations, as well as transcriptional changes, allows for a deeper understanding of initiation and progression of disease.
Unravelling the biology of complex diseases, such as cancer, is a prerequisite for the development of new therapeutic interventions. The wealth of validated data sets that come from microarray analysis likely holds the information necessary to develop such approaches. Several microarray studies have shown how valuable this technology is for the clear identification and characterization of disease, as initially described by Golub et al. (Science, 1999) and were further proven by numerous other studies, several of them based on data from our genomic service department (Wenzel et al., Int. J. Cancer, 2008).
